The Day the Earth Stood Still

Ok, so not really a movie review so much. It was fun to watch, good times. Now, a listing of the things that stuck out to me as central themes. Its been forever since i've seen the original, at the time i think it was more fear of nuclear war based than fear of just generalized extinction based, but I digress.

These are the things that hit me as central pillars and ideas of the film:

Humans are bad. (until of course the visitor has a change of mind because of being around two people, while ignoring the other few billion and what they are doing.)

"Scientists" are generally good smart caring loving people who stand in the way of the "government" and "military", who are goofs. (i have no comment, i don't know any scientists, "government", or "military" , i only know people, and people in general by themselves want the same things as all other people from what i've seen)

Religious people will freak out if they had direct proof of alien life (I don't know, i thought a religious mindset is partially built on an understanding that we aren't alone, and/or that we don't/can't know everything) (again, i don't intend to moralize or speak for anyone else, it just struck me as a theme, and yes, i know its a commmmmmmmon theme.)

Humans as a group, not as individuals, at a point of great stress and a crossroads, will lift themselves up and rise above it. (I've really got an issue with that idea. order out of chaos.)

And there was something else, but I forgot, of course.

John Cleese was nice to see in a short, reserved appearance. Glad to see him still about, and surrounded by books in the movie, I'm sure he enjoyed that. Keanu did a good job as the detached observer character. Overall good fun, movie with Dee while Cherry watched the kids. And we finally got to use the movie gift card Cherry gave us back in August as an anniversary present :) Thanks! Our family loves Cherry, she's great. If you want her phone number, let me know. {joke}
